hot vs. coldMay 29, 2011
By ManInTheStan I got these boots issued to me when i deployed. I was excited knowing how well Danner's are made and all that. They were wonderful the few days before i deployed, as i'm stationed in Alaska, but when I got to Afghanistan I couldn't wear them anymore. It seriously felt like my feet were in an oven. Cold weather yes, hot weather no.

Good BootsJan 27, 2011
By Contractor These boots were great during the colder season in Iraq. My feet began to sweat a lot more when used in 70 degree or higher weather. Great boot all around, awesome tread and water proof. True to fit for US sizes.

I took a 180 dollar loss on these boots.Sep 30, 2011
By Cam A I received these boots less than 24 hours ago and so far I am not impressed at all, in fact I had to take them off and I am now wearing old tennis shoes. Let me explain, I work and live overseas on a large construction site in South East Asia. I walk on average 3-5 miles a day 7 days a week on very rough, rocky terrian. I've worn the old desert TFX 8" military boots before so I was expecting to enjoy these boots as well. I deceided to order the same size in the Talus GTX that I used to wear with my old TFX boots.
The first thing I noticed was how loose this boot felt around the top of my ankles, no problem I thought maybe I'd just get used to it. I went to work my first day wearing these boots and after walking about 2 miles I really started to feel pain on the back part of my ankles because like I said there is just too much play at the top opening of the boot and every time I'd take a step the top back of the boot would rub (dig) into the back of my ankle. So I decided to continue on and just man up because maybe these boots just need to be broken into a bit more. I finished the day at work, went to bed and when I rolled out of bed in the morning that's when the pain really hit me. Now my knees were hurting as well, I've never had this problem. I'm assuming my knees were aching because I had to compensate my walk to avoid the back of the boot from rubbing into the back of my ankles.
Also, the inside soles are very hard. This is not a comfortable boot at all. I haven't sworn off Danner, in fact my next purchase will be the old military 8" TFX. I loved my old pair and I should have never replaced them with this Talus GTX boot. I'm ticked off because I spent a lot of money on these boots and now I'll only be using them as a back up pair.

Great, durable, mid-weight boot that runs slightly largeOct 08, 2010
By Noah Kolodziejski These boots performed well on a fairly technical three day hike, with 50lb. packs, without any break-in (I brought backups, which I never used). I was extremely surprised at how large they fit, however, as I wear ski-weight socks while hiking, and it would seem that in anything but the thickest of wool socks, the Danners should be sized down 1/2 size from your street shoe size. The additional rubber welt around the lower portion of the boot saved the toe from lots of wear, even on the first use.
