Comfy and light shoesJan 16, 2011

I first discovered the Propet brand on Zappos.com as I was looking for athletic shoes that would be orthotics friendly. I have severe flat feet and require my custom orthotics to support my arches.
The shoe is true to size. I am a woman but usually wear a size 8.5 men's in either D-Medium or W-Wide (preferred) width. However, due to pricing and availability, I got a 9 D. It is a little long but I was able to put my orthotics on top of the factory provided insoles. This gave me a firmer and more cushioned fit.
The collar and tongue of the shoe has nice padding. However, I would have preferred if the collar and laces came up higher around my ankles. I had to create another lace hole for a more secure fit. I know that this shoe would usually fit men with larger ankles so this is not really a shortcoming for this shoe.
This shoe has really nice arch support to complement my custom orthotics. I wore them immediately for an 8-hour shift of standing. I was tired but not as much as I would have been normally with my old pair of shoes.
I have not washed it yet but I intend to wipe it down with a wet cloth as necessary since city walking could get quite dirty.

Shoes are light weight and comfortable and durable. They stay clean and are quite on tile and cement floors so that it doesn't sound like you wearing tap shoes when you walk by. They are also cool which is important in Florida.

My husband loves these shoes. They give the support he needs and he says they are very comfortable. He would definitely recommend them if you are looking for a comfortable walking shoe that has support.

It is an odd practice, Amazon, to put two different models on the same page.
The older model of this shoe has lace holes positioned incorrectly (too low). It is pictured on the most right two color thumbnails (white and sport white with partially white sole, with only one view for each), currently with very limited availability and sizes marked with dual width measuring systems, e.g. 9 W/3E, rather than just 9 3E. The newer model has lace holes going much higher.
This difference should be clearly pointed out to customers.
I was lucky to (unknowingly) receive the newer model, even though the Amazon's price was really slashed. This shoe is quite roomy, with a tall toe box, which allows to insert a custom insole, if necessary. So it seems larger than other shoes, especially Nunn Bush Oxfords. I would have exchanged it for a half size smaller, but this deal was not available for the smaller size any more.
Four stars for not so trendy look. I have not tested the wash & wear feature yet.
