4Increase the intensity of your walkJun 01, 2010
By Heather L. Stpeter
I bought these shoes because I'm training for a walking marathon and my old walking shoes couldn't cut it after 14 miles on the open road.
I tested about 12 different shoes before I bought these, from Nike, ASICSs, Easy Stride, and even Reebok's Easy Tone. I chose these shoes because the air balance pods in them works to support long distance walking better.

The 14 mile walk I did after buying these shoes worked my legs 50% harder than any other shoe, and I was much more spent. It took me a full day to recover from that walk, versus half a day from a previous 14 mile walk.

These shoes worked my legs harder, no doubt. My husband even commented on how much more toned and tight my legs looked! Being over 40 that means alot.

They are worth the price.

I've had the RunTones for about 3 months and run 3 times a week. They are super comfortable and keep my knee from hurting (I tore my ACL when I was in high school). I don't really notice whether or not they are helping me to tone any faster than from normal running, which is why I am giving them 4 stars. If you plan to order them on Amazon, I would suggest going to a shoe store for a fitting. I had to go up a whole size.

5Reebok RuntoneApr 23, 2010

I have had my Reebok Runtones for four weeks. I love them. They are very comfortable and supportive. I wear them to run and sometimes just for leisure. They are expensive but so far seem to be worth the price.

2They definitely slow you downJun 04, 2011

Everyone seems to wonder, "Do these shoes really work?" Well, I've used them (off and on) for about a year now and the verdict is...It depends on what you mean by "work" but I certainly don't recommend them for runners. Here's my experience: I bought these shoes specifically for running. That was a mistake. They are initially very comfortable - I would describe them as "squishy." I guess this is what is supposed to help you build muscle because you have to overcome that resistance in order to move forward in this shoe. The fastest I could walk in these shoes was a 15 minute mile (and I felt like I was really pushing it hard) Normally, I can walk a fast mile in 12 minutes. Running - I could barely run under a 30 min 5K (when my usual times are around 24-26 min) I thought I was just out of shape, so I ran more. The more I ran, the more I noticed pain in my foot during my runs even though I use orthotic insoles. More recently, I developed severe hip, ankle and back pain. One day, I had to stop in the middle of my workout. I had trouble walking back home - the pain was so sharp. I had a hunch it was the shoes, so I bought some new Brooks Ravennas. My first run in the Ravennas was a 25.5 min 5K and I swear I expended the same amount of effort as I did with the Runtones (which took me 30 minutes). Plus, there was no pain. Those two runs were only days apart and the only thing that can explain the difference is the shoes...So, to end this long story - did I notice any toning difference? No. Did they provide extra resistance? Yes. Was it worth the pain? Definitely not. If you're serious about running, get a real running shoe. Lesson learned.

I love these shoes. They are extremely supportive. The heels feels like it has memory foam in it. I love the fact that I can run in these, whereas other "toning" shoes do not allow. while running, the bottom of teh shoes feel like a spring and propel you forward.
