How do I love thee, oh Top Siders? Let me count the ways!!Apr 01, 2011
By Ace First of all, these shoes make you look COOL when you wear them with your jeans, and NO socks.
Secondly, they are tenacious and the whote soles really grip. They DO NOT seem to grip too well on very dusty concrete inclines as I found out one day when people ended up bending over and asking me if I was OK (I was).
They last forever. Or so it seems. But when they wear out (boo hoo!) then it's time to get ANOTHER pair and look tres cool all over again.
The leather is flexible, cool in the summer (but who wants to wear deck shoes in the city in the winter?) and the shoes become one with your feet. IF you happen, as I did, to walk in the surf and totally mess them up, all I did was hose them down liberally in fresh water, then dry them (stuffed with paper towels to keep their shape) for a few days (away from any heat sources) and then liberally apply cod liver oil to the leather to re-shape and revive them (these were the brown LEATHER ones, not the Suede ones!)-- it worked VERY well, and the shoes lasted for another 4 or 5 years.
Sperry, I loove you!
