2Buy the Timberland Chocurua InsteadJun 07, 2010
By D. Draper
I bought the Plymouth boots as a replacement of my Chocurua model that finally wore out after two years of hard use, and was unpleasently surprised at the poor quality of the Plymouth boots. The hooks and laces are poor quality and the offset hook design feels like it needs another hook to properly support my ankle.

Do yourself a favor and buy the Timberland Chocurua for the same price.

5Great for both hiking and everyday wear.Feb 08, 2009
By Kevin Vermeer
This is my new favorite shoe. My dad purchased a pair last fall, and I frequently borrowed them whenever I had the opportunity and need (and when they weren't on his feet, which was the limiting factor... he wears them to work most every day when he doesn't have a court appearance.) When I went on a trip up north for a weekend, I asked to borrow them and he said that he would be using them that weekend. The next week, he came out to my dorm carrying a shoebox. Woohoo! (No, he did not purchase them on Amazon)

Regardless, once I got the boots, I haven't stopped wearing them.

While they're not insulated, they are more than warm enough to wear all day walking back and forth across campus in 15 degree weather, bundled up in a ski jacket, hoodie, long johns and jeans, hat and gloves. At the same time, they're not so warm that your feet sweat indoors. I doubt that they will be too warm to wear in the summer, although they're warmer than the running shoe style I've been wearing since middle school.

They're very comfortable. My feet required no break in period required, but the shoe does soften slightly over time. The padding is ample and soft. The Gore-Tex® works perfectly-they're waterproof to about the height of the first lace hook on the ankle, about 5" on my 10.5's, but allows for ventilation through the mesh portions. They are size accurate. The support is slightly less than my Nike pronation control running shoes, but that's not a fair comparison-I have high arches and I'm very support conscious. The support is probably more than adequate for normal feet.

They look great as well. They go great with jeans. The actual leather color varies, mine definitely have more black in the brown than the Amazon pic. I wear carpenter and boot cut jeans, and they slip down over the boots just fine. If they get hung up, just a shake of the leg will allow them to slide over the boot-they're not at all bulky. If you like classic cut jeans, they'll probably be snug. But, if you like classic cut jeans, don't worry-they will work great for tucking into the boot :)

Overall, I love the shoes and can't stop wearing them. I haven't done much hiking in them yet, but I'm looking forward to wearing them hiking once the deep snow melts.

I shopped around a lot and I am completely happy with these. Light as a feather! Great support. Incredibly comfortable right out of the box. Kept my feet totally dry during a big rainstorm. Really well made. Perfect.

I took these boots out of the box put them on and have been wearing them every day since. They are lightweight and comfortable. No breakin required. I do light construction work... they are great outdoors in dry, wet, cold, or warm conditions.

5Amazingly Comfortable BootsFeb 26, 2012
By Alan Houston "alanhouston-texas"
I had been wearing walking shoes when I needed to be on my feet for more than a few hours at a time, but I have been having problems with one of my ankles, due to six decades of wear and tear. I thought I would give the Plymouth boots a try as they appear to have good support around the ankle.

And, the Plymouth boots have greatly reduced my ankle discomfort. But, to my surprise, they are MUCH more comfortable on long walks than my walking shoes. Although the Plymouth looks heavy and bulky, they feel light on my feet. They provide good cushioning when walking on concrete, and good side to side support when walking on muddy or soft surfaces.

In Texas, the 110 degree afternoon temperatures can cause your feet to get hot and sweaty. The Gore-Tex material and vent areas of the Plymouth keep my feet feeling cool in hot weather, and feeling dry and warm in wet weather.

So, a boot I began to wear for longer walks has turned into my "everyday" footwear. And, so far, the Plymouth seems very durable, with very little visible wear, except at the back edge of the heel. I'm guessing the Plymouth boots will provide two or three years of good use, before they get "retired" to being "work in the yard" boots.

I have average width feet, and normally wear a size ten. On longer walks, I usually wear thick socks, so my Plymouth boots are a 10.5 wide. With thick socks, they fit perfectly, and the hooks at the top of the boot permit dialing in the precise tension around the ankle area that I like. Many shoes and boots fit me too tightly across the top of my foot...the Plymouths fit snuggly, but comfortably from the top down, and from side to side.

UPDATE: After wearing these boots for most of my longer walks (usually on urban concrete), my ankle problems seem to be cured. For the past year, I have had ankle pain after most long walks...I assumed that six decades of wear and tear had worn out my ankles and I would have to get used to the pain. The Timberland boots enable me to walk for hours in comfort, and my ankles feel fine the next day. I always assumed "hiking boots" were for week-ends in the mountains and never considered using them as my "every day" footwear...but the Plymouth boots have changed my mind...I wear them almost every day.
